The Homeschooler in Me- Q & A

Most of my homeschool posts appear on my Happy Hearts Homeschool blog, but occasionally I duplicate those posts here for friends and family to see our homeschooling in action. Since homeschooling is such an intricate part of the fabric that makes up our family, I've decided to include a once-a-week, original homeschool-related post here at Hi Madsens, starting today. With that in mind...

We are often asked questions about our homeschooling, so I thought a little Q & A session here would be fun.

Q: Why do you homeschool?

A: There are many reasons why we homeschool, but I would say one of my top-most reasons for homeschooling is to give my children a spiritually-safe learning environment. There is a scripture verse in D&C 88:8 which I love to apply to this-
Wherefore, stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come; for behold, it cometh quickly, saith the Lord. Amen. That is how I feel about our home. It's a holy place, one where we are free to op…

More NYC

My favorite part of sight-seeing around New York City, was Central Park. Central Park is amazing!
Shakespeare (and Darcie)  Walter Scott (and Marcus) Christopher Columbus (and Darcie, Marisa and Marcus)

 Belvedere Castle

Our favorite statue was Alice in Wonderland. The cool thing about Alice in Wonderland is that children can climb on it.  Another favorite statue was of Hans Christian Andersen. Our favorite spot was Shakespeare Garden.

NYC Trip Continued

I promised to post more pics from our NYC-Broadway trip. Although the main purpose of our trip was to see five Broadway shows, we also did some sight-seeing in New York City.

We visited Time Square, and the stores there are fun because they are multi-leveled. We saw the Toys R Us store, the Disney store and the M&M store.

We also took a buffet cruise where we saw the Statue of Liberty.

One day we took the hop-on-hop-off bus tour where we rode past The Empire State Building before stopping to visit the 9-11 memorial.

Stay tuned for more pics later this week!

New York City and Broadway Trip

Darcie, Marissa, Marcus and I just returned from a week in New York City! We had an amazing time. We were on the go non-stop! Throughout this week, I'll be posting pictures and tales from our trip.

The main event was going to five Broadway shows. We saw Matilda, which we absolutely loved. The music and the acting was superb, especially by the 8-year old girl playing Matilda, and the actor playing Miss Trunchbull. We saw On the Twentieth Century starring Kristen Chenoweth and Peter Gallagher. Very funny. We saw Phantom of the Opera with its haunting music. Always a winner. We saw Aladdin, from the balcony which was a new experience. And we saw Finding Neverland, which featured Kelsey Grammer, and was completely fabulous.

This was our first visit to Broadway and we hope to go again someday.

I hope your week has been enjoyable. Have a fantastic weekend!

Guess What?

Guess where we are this week? New York City! We are seeing 5 Broadway shows, including this one. Check out this amazing tribute!

Marcus Said It!

While playing the game, Apples to Apples, Marcus came across, "Old Faithful". Marcus look at it, confused as he read the description- "Famous geyser in Yellowstone National Park with eruptions that occur about 90 minutes apart."

"I thought Old Faithful was a dog! He got rabies and was shot!"
